Our Branding Image

While we have been striving to create a presence for ourselves in social media, we have had to sit down as a team (several times, in fact) to discuss the types of messages we want to send to the people who are United Staffing enthusiasts.  What we established was that:

  1. We want to emphasize the idea of Diversity, and what it means to us as a company.  We have been awarded WBE certification, which acknowledges us as a Woman-Owned Business Enterprise; as well as, having been selected as one of the "Top Small Businesses" by DiversityBusiness.com.  We want to personify how beneficial it is for companies to value diversity in the workplace.
  2. We hope to express how we are enriching the community through promotional efforts, such as an upcoming chess tournament we will be hosting at the Marshall Chess Club.  In addition, we will be hosting volunteer seminars with the Bronx Borough Presidents Office to coach residents on work related issues, such as “how to build a better resume”, etc.
  3. United Staffing is looking to express how we are taking a personalized approach whenworking with clients and candidates, alike.  The idea is to validate our sincere desire to provide jobs to New Yorkers and help decrease the growing unemployment rate.  In addition, we are working hard to focus our attention on one job and one applicant at a time to ensure our personalized approach is fulfilled.
  4. We are looking to create new, and innovative ways with how we, as a company, ascertain new business prospects. (Such as the use of Social Media)
  5. It is important for us to share information, as well as our expertise with the community abroad, in dealing with work related issues that could help jobseekers and managers alike.

How To Balance the World Cup and Work This Month

By: Chad North

The World Cup starts tomorrow and many procrastinators, such as myself, are scrambling to make plans to see the matches and somehow balance a full time job as well. Since the tournament is in South Africa this year, and the matches will be played between 7am and 4:30pm ET, most East Coast-ers will have to maneuver some on-the-job arrangements.

For many, this will simply mean calling in sick on the day of an important match. For some, it will mean an entire month-long “sickness”. For most of us, we will have to balance our day job with the most important sporting event on earth. Included below are a few tips that might help you both see the games and get the job done.

- First, instead of calling out sick – make arrangements with your HR and co-workers to be out half-day for any important first-round matches.

- Next, make sure that your DVR is set to record everything. Erase any old “Dancing with the Stars” or “Real Housewives” episodes that your wife/girlfriend has recorded.

- Turn off your cell phone to avoid text messages from friends gloating that their team is beating yours.

- Do not use the internet prior to when you can see the match.

- Avoid walking by any bars after work that might have highlights or people celebrating.

- Lastly, make the case to your boss that the World Cup should be on the TV at work.

How do you accomplish this last task? By making an intelligent and informed argument. Don’t worry, you still have time. The World Cup doesn’t start for another 15 hours.

Explain to he/she that the World Cup is only once every four years and involves nations from all over the globe. Stress it’s cultural, political, and economic importance. Explain that clients who see the tournament on the TV while visiting the office will view the company in a favorable light. It might open a friendly dialog or lead to harmless competitive banter. Tell he/she that it will improve company morale. Lastly, explain that you can have the volume down and closed captioning on.

Under no circumstances should you reveal which team you are routing for as it will impede your ability to call in sick when that team makes it to the knock-out round. Those dates are unpredictable, even if you are Brazil.

Be sure to enjoy the Cup and good luck making your case. You have 14+ hours left.

Sidewalk Collective event hosted by Postling

Tuesday night at the Rodger Smith Hotel brought out a diverse crowd of both new and already established local NYC businesses.  The goal: educate this eager group about the growing power of social media techniques.  Whether they are currently using social media as a marketing tool, or are brand new to the idea, this event was aimed at providing tips, giving demos, and talking about the success of this new marketing tactic.  Butter Lane cupcakes shared their experiences with social media marketing, and helped attendees to understand the magnitude of networking that this can create.  It was exciting to hear that a small local business could generate so much awareness simply through establishing their voice on the internet.  We were also able to generate our own ideas on different social media marketing techniques simply by hearing stories of other businesses. USS would like to thank the Rodger Smith Hotel, Sidewalk Collective, Postling, and Mobile Meteor for hosting such a great event! Hope to see even more businesses at the next one!

Celebrating Nurses Week With Some 'Scream

We visted the Greater Harlem Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, Inc. this past Tuesday, May 11th, to celebrate National Nurses Week.  We even brought along a Mr. Softee Ice-Cream Truck for the nurses and residents to enjoy some tasty treats on us; let's just say we were able to provide a wonderful surprise for this group. These nurses were able to see how much their work is appreciated by both our company and the people who benefit most from their hard work.  It was great to share in the appreciation and celebration that nurses truely derserve on a regular basis, and not just one week out of the year!
